We finally made it to Austin! After growing up in Upstate New York, my wife and I moved to Houston in 1998 to begin our teaching careers. In Houston, I was a general music teacher before I ran my own guitar studio from 2005 to Hurricane Harvey (2018). Upon arriving in Austin, I worked with Breakthrough students in all three Manor middle schools. I’m super stoked to have ultimately landed in The Raven Nest!
A “few” years ago, I obtained my bachelor’s degree from The College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY and, later, my Master’s in Music Education from the same institution.
In my spare time, I love to play guitar, compose for guitar, walk, hike, read, write, and watch squirrels. Tammy, my wife of 20 years, is an elementary school teacher in Round Rock ISD and fills our home with good cheer and humor every day.
It was my high school jazz band and orchestra directors, Mr. Beaubriand and Mr. Bosella, who inspired me to teach. They treated students with respect and encouraged us to love music. They made complimentary phone calls to my parents. They made me recordings of music that were excellent examples of what I was to perform and to which I was supposed to aspire.
Each day, I continue to grow and learn in my own practice so that I can teach and demonstrate music to my students in a way that encourages their love of music and the guitar – a love which was so generously sparked in me so many years earlier.
