MISD, iFly Partner to Reward Middle School Students Who Soar in the Classroom

Manor ISD Middle School students have another reason to aim high in the classroom and finish strong.
The district and iFly Indoor Skydiving have partnered to create Manor ISD Day May 21st-24th. 850 MISD 6th-8th grade students will get an opportunity to fly at the Austin and San Antonio iFly locations. Another 150 will fly during the Summer Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Academy camps. The announcement was made during an assembly in front of students at Decker Middle, Manor Middle and Manor New Tech Middle Schools. The assemblies included a short video, words from MISD Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery, campus principals, and iFly Representative Brendan Nugent.
This is iFly's first partnership with a school district and will focus greatly on Science, Technology Engineering, and Math learning. The event will also be the largest iFly Field Trip in the United States.
"This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about STEM outside of the classroom," said  Dr. Avery. "This partnership with iFly is a great way for our students to experience something unique while gaining valuable knowledge. And it is our way of thanking them for their hard work in school."
There will be a lottery event to select the students who go because spots are limited. In order to be chosen, students must have the following:
*90% attendance or better with no more than one tardy per week, per class
*Good student behavior with no alternative placement or out-of-school suspensions
*Passing all classes
*Acquire a minimum of 25 "Decker Dollars" "Gladiator Dollars" or "Pony Points" for each event with a teacher's signature to attend these field trips.
This is another example of how Manor ISD partners with organizations to promote student success through innovation. Stay tuned for more announcements as we approach the May fly dates.
